Consultants and Actuaries

Derek is a Consultant in GRS’ Southfield, Michigan office. He has more than nine years of experience working with statewide and local government benefit plans. Derek has extensive experience with post-retirement healthcare and Other-Postemployment Benefit (OPEB) plans, ranging from state systems to municipal and county clients. He has served clients in Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota and West Virginia. He has also conducted actuarial audits for statewide and county pension plans across the country.

Beyond conducting regular pension and OPEB valuations and audits, Derek’s expertise also includes experience studies, supplemental cost analyses, actuarial projections and forecasting, and GASB 74 and 75 compliance. He has also assisted his clients in developing funding policies.

Professional Activities

Derek regularly attends regional conferences held by associations serving public employee retirement systems such as the Michigan Association of Public Employees Retirement System (MAPERS) and has served as conference speaker for the Pennsylvania Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems (PAPERS).
